Endowment
The California Endowment, a private, statewide health foundation, was
established in 1996 to expand access to affordable, quality health care
for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental
health improvements in the health status of all Californians. Since its

California
Community Colleges, Chancellors Office, Educational Services and
Economic Development Network (Ed>Net)
The California Community College system serves more than 2.9 million students
and is the largest system of higher education in the world. Community
colleges offer all of the courses needed to complete the first two years
of requirements for a university degree; they also offer hundreds of programs
in vocational and technical fields, and provide courses for those who
need to catch up or brush up on the basics in order to succeed with college-level
work.
Located in Sacramento, the Chancellor's Office is the administrative branch
of the California Community College system. This state agency provides
leadership and technical assistance to the 108 community colleges and
72 community college districts in California. It is also responsible for
allocating state funding to the colleges and districts.
The Chancellor's Office operates under the guidance of the Board of Governors,
which sets policy and provides long-range planning and guidance to the

Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as
the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people
- at home and abroad, providing credible information to enhance health
decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships. CDC serves
as the national focus for developing and applying disease prevention and
control, environmental health, and health promotion and education activities
designed to improve the health of the people of the United States. The

The Bernard
Osher Foundation
The Bernard Osher Foundation was established in 1977 by Bernard Osher,
a businessman and community leader. His philanthropy has benefited a wide
range of educational, cultural, environmental, and other organizations
in the San Francisco Bay Area and in the State of Maine. One of the Foundation's
priorities is the Osher Scholars Program. The City College of San Francisco
is one of more than two dozen post-secondary campuses in the Bay Area
and Maine that provide financial assistance to Osher Scholar students
who exhibit both high academic performance and economic need.
